2011 was an excellent year for the Chamber’s growth and services to our members. We have made remarkable strides in each of our key deliverable areas. The following points summarize your membership investment at work:
Increasing exposure for our members
- Rebuilt website to function as a search-engine optimized news portal;
- Implemented membership directory for online access and exposure for our members;
- Hired members as vendors at various events, generating thousands of dollars and promoting products and services;
- Welcomed the openings of over two dozen new businesses at ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremonies;
Supporting business growth
- The Chamber has partnered with the Pacific Gateway Layoff Aversion Program to bring valuable resources including employee subsidies and training, financing, and several other opportunities;
- Topical, weekly newsletters have kept our constituents informed of local business issues, government matters, community news and events, and Chamber activities;
- Supported businesses through assistance with public service organizations and LA city and county elected officials;
Events and Promotion
- Over 1,200 business members, public officials, and community members have attended our hosted events in 2011:
- Breakfast with Councilwoman Janice Hahn with over 125 attendees;
- Tribute to Youth event with over 70 attendees;
- Legislative Luncheon with Assemblyman Furutani with 150 attendees;
- Luncheon with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa with over 120 attendees;
- 2011 Board Installation luncheon hosting over 100 attendees;
- Tribute to First Responders event which hosted over 120 attendees;
- Networking and social events on a monthly basis with combined attendees of over 600 members and guests;
Voice to local and regional business interests
- Serving the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce to promote business advocacy to the local and state government;
- Hosted business workshops including topics on marketing, social networking, software training, and a small business roundtable;
- Officially supported pro-business legislation, city, state, and federal bills;
- Welcomed 6 new board members representing a wide cross-section of the business community.
Establishing strategic partnerships
- Working closely with Los Angeles Community Development Department, LA Harbor BusinessSource Center, Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, and SCORE;
- Supported the Neighborhood Promise Grant with Los Angeles Harbor College;
- Collaborating to deliver the Layoff Aversion and Business Retention program;
- Brought the Thursday Night Gourmet Food-Truck Festival to Harbor City;
- Collaborated with Narbonne High School to revitalize a neglected agricultural area into the International Gardens;
- Active in LA County BizFed advocacy group, representing on our constituency’s behalf.
- Active in the Heal the Bay service program and Coastal Cleanup Day at Harbor Regional park;
- Active in the Mayor’s Day of Service bringing over 200 volunteers to give Harbor City Recreation park an amazing face-lift;
- Inaugurated Team Panda youth leadership program with 110 high school students devoted to community service;
- Active in Harbor City and Harbor Gateway neighborhood council meetings;
- Supporting several events of the Boys and Girls Club of the South Bay in order to advance the organization’s outreach to 4,500 youth.
